Clinical Capabilities

Patients involved in our trials benefit from comprehensive patient care and treatment processes such as:

  • Radiation and chemotherapy treatment
  • Surgery
  • Palliative care
  • Bone marrow and stem cell transplantation (allogeneic and autologous)

Our members provide clinical analyses which include molecular pathology, immunopathology, and haematology.
Clinical studies are performed in medical oncology, haematology and bone marrow transplantation.

Phase I Clinical Trials

Four of our sites, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne Health, Austin Health and Western health have significant experience in conducting Phase I trials.

In the event 24 hour monitoring is required patients can be admitted to wards that provide such level of monitoring.

 The Phase I centres have conducted first time in human studies with both pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.

Multiple Sites

CTA can conduct large studies as it has 11 clinical sites which includes the major cancer trials centres in Australia. Coordinated ethics approval and mutual acceptance is available so that multiple sites can commence trials simultaneously.

Tracking System

Monitoring System - two main systems are currently in operation:

  • Clinical Trial Internal Management System (eResearch) - a secure, web based system to register and track clinical trial patients, ethics submissions and trial information which ensures efficient management of our clinical trial processes.
  • Ethics Tracking System which provides members and sponsors details of progress of ethics submissions at each participating sites.
