| Cancer Trials Australia’s researchers and clinicians have made many fundamental and groundbreaking contributions to medical science over the years. Their discoveries have had a profound impact on the lives of ordinary people around the world and have won prestigious prizes and awards. Cancer Trials Australia as an organisation follows in that path by its creation of unique support services and systems for the clinical trial evaluation process. These innovative approaches have attracted government support, which has helped to establish a translational research laboratory, information systems for patient accruals and upgrades to the PET facilities. Conducting national and international clinical trials with sponsors from Australia, Europe, Asia and the United States has involved cutting edge research in solid tumours and haematology, particularly in early phase studies. Examples of our innovative approach include: • A unique project management structure and system that supports our investigator teams to meet ethical and regulatory requirements and attain the highest levels of data integrity • Coordination of detailed and transparent study budgets, and payments across sites • Streamlining clinical trials processes for example, Mutual Acceptance of Ethical Approvals for multi centre trials • Development of a web based, integrated trial management system solution, that tracks clinical trial approvals and patient accruals • Obtaining a $4 million competitive infrastructure grant to establish a clinical trials laboratory and bioinformatics program as well as ensuring our PET facilities remain state of the art |
